As AI hardware and defence become increasingly intertwined with economic growth and national security, the UK needs the ability to develop, test and scale key technologies at home to grow its sovereign capability and supply chains.
The Semiconductor Catapult is the only place in the UK, and one of the few places in Europe, with co-located, multidisciplinary teams spanning radio frequency (RF) to microwave, photonics, power electronics, quantum and advanced packaging. These technologies underpin critical applications across next-generation AI, data centres and compute, defence, communications, clean energy and transport, supported by capital, equipment, proprietary processes and highly skilled engineers.
We bring together specialist engineering capabilities with expertise from businesses, finance, academia and government, the Catapult is solving the industrial problems that prevent breakthrough technologies moving from the lab into large-scale deployment – helping companies turning manufacturable, investable and commercially deployable products.

We were established as CSA Catapult in 2018 by Innovate UK as a research and technology organisation.
Today, we are an independent, not-for-profit business working with companies to get products and services to market faster. Our state-of-the-art facilities are the only place in the UK, and one of the few places in Europe, with co-located, multidisciplinary teams spanning RF and microwave, photonics, power electronics, quantum and advanced packaging, supported by capital equipment, proprietary processes, patents and highly skilled engineers.
